Workshop with Ludwig Rauch (8 workshop days in total)

The precondition for being successful in artistic photography is not only to master your technical equipment or to recognize what might be a rewarding subject for an image. A crucial point for achieving a remarkable outcome is a distinctive artistic style. Guided by experienced photographer, artist and Ostkreuz-instructor Ludwig Rauch, interested photographers can enter the journey to explore ways towards an own artistic identity. The workshop at the p: berlin academy will be an excellent base from which committed photographers can further advance with their art work. Which includes aspects like: How do I find a concept and theme for my work? How to present the results online and in exhibitions?

Ludwig Rauch invites you to develop your specific positions within photography over a stretch of eight single workshop dates. The dates are scheduled to happen every last Sunday of the month, beginning September 2025. Each the participant’s visual language will be analyzed and through Ludwig Rauch’s guidance and constant discussions within the group their artistic capabilities are fostered and enhanced in the run of this outstanding workshop series.

The workshop’s goal: all participants develop their own subject-matter and project in order to present its outcome in a mutual exhibition in the summer of 2026. The entire process from project development up to the final exhibition prints will be done collectively and is accompanied by continuous feedback.

How to apply:
Applications include a CV, a list of exhibitions and projects and maximum of 20 images of their previous photographic work. Additionally, please add a short description of your own expectation, your goals and the reasons why you would like to join the course. Vita:
Ludwig Rauch was born in 1960 in Leipzig. He studied photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig until January 1989 when he left East-Germany for West-Berlin. Rauch already was already working as a journalist in the GDR where he was testing his artistic ambitions. Due to his bold and undisguised photography of workers in the East-German coal industry, he was excluded from any further publication of his photographs in the country. This prohibition remained in place until November 1989. In 1991 He was one of the co-founders of the art magazine neue bildende Kunst (new visual Art) and was its picture editor until its closure in 1999. Ludwig Rauch teaches at present at the Berlin photography school Ostkreuz.
